Steel workers in Venezuela are being praised for exceptional bravery after they risked their lives and pulled survivors from a plane crash in the eastern part of the country.

The workers rushed into action Monday after a turboprop carrying 47 passengers and four crew members crash landed and burst into flames at a scrap metal yard next to the workers' foundry on the Orinoco River. Fifteen people died in the accident, but 36 survived thanks largely to the efforts of the employees at the state-run Sidor plant.

The United Steelworkers (USW) released the following statement from International President Leo W. Gerard. regarding the announcement by the Office of the United States Trade Representative that the Obama Administration has accepted the USW's petition under Section 301 of the trade law seeking the elimination of Chinese policies and practices that adversely affect U.S. producers and their workers in the clean energy sector.  A description of the petition appears below.
